On behalf of the Association of the German Automotive Industry (VdA), classic-analytics determines the German classic car index once a year, it shows the average annual value development since 1999.

It considers 88 representative classic car models from seven countries. To prevent distortion by single particularly valuable collector's cars, only post-war vehicles were considered. The initial value was set at 1,000 points.

Since 1999, the value of classic cars in Germany has increased by an average of 5.7 percent annually, leading to a current index of 1,776 points.

The "Historical Vehicles" department of the VDA has been advocating for the preservation of classic cars since 2007. In addition to the necessary political activities of the association, almost all German automotive manufacturers have established classic divisions, which, among other things, focus on the technical preservation of the vehicles.
